Date & Time: Friday 11th January, 2019 at 4.00 PM
Venue: SSCU AUDITORIUM
Life on earth is still existing from its beginning of some billion years ago because of the most powerful driving force of the nature that is- evolution. Evolution has been viewed from biological perspective but now it’s time to view through a chemist perspective, which can lead to its molecular level understanding. This evolution can be directed for the designing of new molecules on the basis of the requirements. Inspired from nature Frances H. Arnold, George P. Smith, Sir Gregory P. Winter have used this directed evolution approach for the benefits of mankind. This fetched them this year Chemistry Nobel prize for their contribution in this field. This method revolutionized to develop a greener chemicals industry, manufacture sustainable biofuels, to produce immune-resistant drugs, which some time can cure metastatic cancer. In this talk, I shall discuss about directed evolution, how this method is achieved and some recent applications using this novel approach.
