These materials are an unusual semiconductor with similarities as well as differences from the II-VI family of materials. Our observation of a new physical effect, temporal evolution of radiative rate in these materials is reported in (<a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1088\/2399-1984\/aae05a\">Nano Fut. 2018<\/a>). The observation of an allied effect enabled us to generate materials where spontaneous emission lifetimes could be generated on demand\u00a0(<a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1063\/5.0036676\">J.\u00a0 Chem. Phys. 2021<\/a>). We further extensively characterized defects in these materials (<a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1021\/jacs.6b04981\">J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2016<\/a>)\u00a0as well as plasmonic characteristics of some of these materials\u00a0(<a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1021\/acs.jpclett.7b03190\">J. Phys. Chem. Lett. 2018<\/a>) . We also used these materials as IR photodetectors\u00a0(<a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1002\/admi.202000056\">Adv. Mat. Interf. 2020<\/a>) , catalysts\u00a0(<a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1021\/acsenergylett.8b00886\">ACS Energy Lett. 2018<\/a>)\u00a0as well as for transparent wide area lighting and displays\u00a0(<a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1021\/acs.jpclett.8b01787\">J. Phys. Chem. Lett. 2018<\/a>). We developed theoretical tools to understand the peculiar electronic structure of I-III-VI2 nanocrystals.
