 Abstract:

A sustainable power source to fulfil the requirement of energy is very much crucial in modern era as the conventional energy sources are depleting with time. Biomechanical, hydropower, thermal, solar and wind are some of the well-known renewable energy sources that can be expected to manage the demand of energy in our near future. Nanogenerators are the growing technology that can harvest ambient energy to generate electricity. Among the nanogenerators, Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) are expected to have a bright future as a foundation of the energy for a new era because of its high instantaneous output power, easy and low-cost fabrication process, broad selection of available materials, and various working modes customized for target applications. Triboelectric nanogenerators work by the mechanism of triboelectrification which is very common phenomena in nature, but triboelectricity was regarded as negative phenomena causing accidents or discomfort. The way of thinking about triboelectricity has been changed by the breakthrough discovery of triboelectric nanogenerator in 2012 by Z.L. Wang’s group. Triboelectric nanogenerators have interesting applications in designing sustainable energy suppliers and self-powered sensors. In my seminar, I will discuss about the underlying mechanism of triboelectricity and some interesting applications of triboelectric nanogenerators along with some modification strategies to increase the output efficiency of TENG which will help to fabricate TENG device with better electrical output.
