Title: Applications of Charge Transfer Cocrystals as Organic Dielectrics
Date & Time: Thursday, 12th June 2025 at 04:00 p.m.
Venue: Rajarshi Bhattacharya Memorial Lecture Hall, Chemical Sciences Building
Abstract:

The importance of the crystal chemistry of organic solids, both single component and multi-component, has been well-established in the literature and the role of intermolecular interactions in this regard is of extreme relevance.1The prevalence of polymorphism in organic molecules and cocrystals is also well known in the literature2. In recent years, the utility of cocrystallization has been extended to the development of charge transfer cocrystals that exhibit photoluminescence3 and function as dielectrics.4 The current talk shall address the relevance of intermolecular interactions, to understand the formation of crystalline solids, and correlate the role of structure with the associated properties.

Dr. Deepak Chopra is currently a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. He joined the Institute in 2009. He completed the Integrated PhD program from Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore in Chemical Crystallography under Prof T. N. Guru Row, in 2006, followed by postdoctoral work in IISc till 2007. He further continued his postdoctoral work at the University of Toledo, Ohio, USA in the field of electron density analysis in molecular crystals under Prof Alan A. Pinkerton from 2007 to 2009. His active research interests, includes investigation of polymorphism in drugs and pharmaceuticals, computational analysis of non-covalent interactions, in situ cryo crystallization, experimental/theoretical electron density analysis and mechanical/electrical properties in molecular crystals. He is currently on the Editorial Board of Journal of Molecular Structure, Elsevier, and the RSC journal CrystEngComm, and a Co-Editor of the journal Acta Crystallographica E (IUCr, Chester). He is also a Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry and Fellow of the Indian Chemical Society.
