Title: ‘Squeezed States of Light’
Date & Time: Thursday, 28th November 2024 at 4.00 p.m.
Venue: Rajarshi Bhattacharya Memorial  Lecture Hall, Chemical Sciences Building
Abstract:

Squeezed states of light represent a fascinating quantum phenomenon where uncertainty in one component of the electromagnetic field is reduced below the standard quantum limit at the expense of increased uncertainty in the complementary component. This has widespread application in quantum metrology where the measurements are extremely sensitive to the noise in system.
In my seminar I will go through the fundamental principles underpinning the squeezed states. I will explain how such states can be generated through nonlinear optical processes and how to detect such states. I will also briefly explain how such states can be utilized in gravitational wave detection and quantum teleportation.
